Random Ramblings - June 12, 2006

There isn't much to report on the Johnson's. The three of us got a chance to spend the weekend together with no other prior plans. No basketball, no work, no cancer walk, nothing! It was so relaxing and thankfully the weather was nice which allowed us to get away for little bike rides around town.

Saturday we went to get Lukas' picture taken at the Picture People. The photo shoot went well though it took Lukas awhile to adjust to the camera person. He did smile at a girl who worked there, but wasn't taking his picture. She was cuter then the girl taking his picture, which made me laugh thinking that Lukas already has decent taste in women. Hehe!

We ate lunch at Red Robin while waiting for the photos to be developed. We had a gift card by parents had given us for our anniversary so we used that. It's always nice when you spend $4 for lunch at Red Robin.

After lunch we went back to the Picture People to choose our photos. The pictures turned out great so we settled on our free 8x10 and bought two 5x7's of Lukas in a little blue car. Blue is definitely his color as the shirt and car both made his eyes shine.

Later that day we went shopping for our nephews and nieces in Brazil who we get to see in less than a month. I'm so excited to see the twins, who we bought matching basketball jerseys for.

The next morning we watched some World Cup soccer and went to church. It was the first time in a month that we had been to church (sinners!) so it felt nice going. However, our pastor wasn’t there and the music seemed to drag on forever so it wasn’t real uplifting like I would like church to be. Sometimes we think about attending a different church but then we remember the nice things the church did for us while Lis was in the hospital and how much we love the pastor and the people at the church.

After church we ate lunch and got some chores done around the house. It felt nice to get things done. Yeah for us! We also went on a bike ride, riding to my grandparent’s house and to the store. Its nice living in town and being able to ride everywhere. I visit my grandparent’s more often because it gives us a nice pit-stop on our bike ride and gives us a place to ride to.

Like I said, it was a relaxing an uneventful weekend.

So what else can I ramble about? I’ve been watching and following the World Cup. Usually I’m not a big soccer fan but this year my interest has peaked. I can think of a couple of reasons. First, I’m married to a Brazilian so every day I get to hear about how dominating the Brazilian team is which is kind of neat to hear about. Secondly, the World Cup seems to be the only sporting event Lis is interested in (see the first note for reason) so I can ramble on and on about it and she listens. Third, if Brazil makes it to the championship game then we will be there in Brazil on July 9 to watch it and if they win it then we’ll be there to celebrate it. Party! So as you can see there is plenty to root for!

Actually I enjoy seeing how the rest of the world is totally excited about this event and how it’s watched by billions upon billions of people around the globe. It’s amazing. Countries take the day off just to watch their team play soccer. The fans go crazy (especially those darn Brazilians) supporting their team, they chant songs in the stands, jump up and down the entire game. It’s exciting to watch. Unfortunately, the US is not as excited about the event (probably because we didn’t invent it) so it’s been hard for me to get excited when there is no one to get excited with. I can’t wait (maybe I can) until Lukas is older and we can share in our excitement.

It also bites because we don’t have ESPN or ESPN2 so we can’t watch any of the games during the day – in English. Thankfully we get the Spanish station so we can watch the game in Spanish, and for those who don’t already know. Lis is Brazilian and does NOT speak Spanish. They speak Portuguese.

So enough about the World Cup. I’ve created a separate blog for that and need to write about how the first round is going on that blog.

I guess that’s it. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoy the random photos we recently took.
